PRACTICING STILLNESS… (like the animals in a forest)
Do your children ever have the chance to be still during their week? (without being punished) Are you looking for a way to help them to develop inner peace? Do they need time to focus inside themselves?
It is hard to imagine just how much stress children carry every day. Tension on a child’s mind can be tremendous. When children come to Miss Maria’s home they look forward to sitting in front of a small fire called Homa. It makes them feel calm inside. Then we gather in the backyard. We nibble on nuts and raisins. We lay on our backs in the grass watching and describing clouds in the sky. We dance, sing or we tone along with a crystal singing bowl. We learn and practice deep breathing and holding still. Stress begins to diminish, children go home feeling peaceful, remembering how to do these things for themselves.
Homa is a Sanskrit word that refers to a specially prepared fire. This small fire fills the atmosphere with nutrients and clears away pollution. Homa allows the mind to relax, makes it easy to breathe fully and to let go of tension and stress. Children particularly are attracted to it. They love the way Homa fire makes them feel clear and calm inside. Enjoying these sessions with Miss Maria may be a needed respite in your child’s week.
